Safety Guidelines for Your Steel Building Construction

Safety Guidelines for Your Steel Building Construction

Steel buildings are the easiest to erect structures, and you can install your shed by yourself, perhaps with the assistance of a small crew of friends or a local contractor. You can DIY the entire build even if you’re not in the construction business, as long as you have some basic  knowledge and a couple more sets of arms eager to assist you in getting the walls up. Most of our customers don’t even require the use of a crane or other big machinery!

Our trusses are pre-punched, and our sheet metal is attached to purlins and girts with self-drilling, color-coded screws. We also supply a step-by-step assembly manual to walk you through the entire procedure.

However, just because our steel structures are simple to assemble doesn’t mean they’re impervious to accidents. Because you’re working with large, massive sheets of metal and lofty steel beams, safety precautions must be followed. Here are some safety tips that you must consider during steel building erection.

Wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

Make sure you have all of the necessary PPE before entering the site. PPE is crucial since it is your last line of defense if you come into contact with a hazard on the job. The use of high-visibility clothing ensures that you are spotted. Safety boots provide traction and protection for your feet. Hard hats can protect your head from any concussion.

Wear a hard hat, safety boots, and a high-visibility vest, as well as any other PPE essential for the activity at hand. You may get a hard hat, boots, gloves, goggles, and mask before starting working.

Keep the Site Clean

A well-kept construction site can directly affect your safety. Clear work areas will not only prevent falls and falling objects but will also provide for better departure paths in the event of an emergency. This includes keeping all work surfaces clean and dry, sealing containers that aren’t in use, keeping all objects and tools off work surfaces, stairways, and hallways, and putting all equipment away when not in use.

Don’t Mess with Equipment

If something isn’t working or doesn’t appear to be right, don’t try to force it or change it.

Guard rails and scaffold ties should never be removed. Machine guards should not be removed. Do not attempt to repair faulty equipment unless you are confident in your ability to do so. Never mess with the equipment.

Reduce the Fall Risks

Try to work as much as possible from the ground. You can continue to limit your risk for those occasions when you absolutely need to be up high. Things like ladder safety and avoiding roof work when it’s windy or slippery can help a lot.

Have an Induction

Everyone on-site, whether you’ve hired help or simply persuaded your friends to help you raise the walls on your steel building, must take the work seriously. Wearing the proper PPE, understanding how to handle building components and erect steel framing, and paying attention to what’s going on around them are all essential. Keep emergency numbers and a first-aid kit accessible or on-site, and make sure everyone involved in the project is aware of their location.

Get A Professional When Needed

Some areas of a steel building project necessitate the assistance of a specialist. When you think you need help, don’t be hesitant to ask for it. In the end, you’ll be safer and have a superior structure.

This is all, and you are good to go.

However, you can buy your steel building from Viking Barns. Here at Viking Barns, the installation is included in the building cost, and you don’t have to worry about the installation. Our professional installers will come and erect your shed with utmost perfection. If you want to know more about order and installation, call us at (704)-579-6966.
